Better Hair Care: Air Drying versus Blow Drying

After washing our mane—and thinking of styling it—we are faced with a simple yet confusing question: Should our hair be blow dried or air dried?

Most of us are busy with our daily commitments. That being the case, we usually end up using blow dryers to dry our hair sooner, enabling us to start working on a great hairstyle, quickly and conveniently.

However, although blow drying can give us enough time to create gorgeous-looking hairstyles, the constant exposure to heat may damage our hair follicles, causing dry, brittle and lifeless strands.

On the other side, when we opt for the air drying, we may end up going to work or school very late since it takes more time to dry our hair strands naturally.

So, today, in order to help you decide which of these two techniques—blow drying or air drying—best compliment your lifestyle, here are some facts that you need to learn.

  • AIR DRYING FACTS

The Concept

Air drying is usually done by   people with low-maintenance hair/hairstyles (e.g., pixie, crop, bob, and boy cut) and people with wavy tresses.

The Rule

If you’re thinking of having your hair air dried, make sure to remember the golden rule—the hair is at its weakest and most fragile state when it is wet.

Hence, to take good care for your mane, make sure not to exert too much pressure on the hair follicles by rubbing it with the use of a rough towel. Instead, use a soft towel to minimize the friction, which can cause the hair to become brittle and damaged.

In addition, as part of your daily hair care regimen, never tug, pull, or comb your hair when it is still wet in order to avoid brittle and damaged strands.

  • BLOW DRYING FACTS

The Concept

Blow drying is commonly done by individuals with long hairstyles. They prefer using blow dryers since they aim to have a fast and convenient way of styling their hair. In addition, using blow dryers can also add lift or volume to the hair strands.

The Rule

If you’re planning on blow drying your hair, make sure that your strands are not soaking wet and that you know the proper technique in using the blow dryer.

To help prevent your mane from getting damaged, learn the step by step process of drying your hair. First, you need to blot the water out using a soft clean towel. Then, avoid holding the dryer too close to your scalp by keeping it at least 6 inches away from your mane. You also need to make sure to move the dryer progressively around your scalp.
